We’re passionate about raising the bar in the lives of teenagers here in the Raleigh-Durham area at The Summit Church. We are committed to reaching students with the gospel, equipping them in the gospel, and sending them with the gospel to see their neighborhoods and the nations transformed. With that vision laid out before us, we want to raise the standards to which we’re calling students. For our high school students specifically, we’re asking every Junior & Senior to commit to giving us five weeks during their summer for Elevate Summer Project. During those five weeks, our students will live overseas partnering with a strategic church planter, living in community with one another in a home, and learning to see the mission of God advanced among the nations.
This summer we have a lot of students signed be a part of that project, and they’ve been meeting together every other week in intense bible study, scripture memory, book reading, and learning what authentic biblical community looks like. Here is an update from our Family Ministries Missions Director, Amanda Springer on that team: (Also, to read another post on our philosophy behind Students and Church Planting, check this out as well.)
Our Elevate Summer Project Team 2014 is officially 4 months out from the departure date! For the past five months, our team has been meeting together every other week learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and as a result of that how to make disciples. It has been such a fruitful time for us to grow together as a team, centered around the gospel and the mission of God. These students are so passionate about serving in Southeast Asia this summer, that many of them are working multiple jobs, on top of school and after-school activities, just to pay for their own way. Who says students are lazy?!?
Our Father is raising up a generation of students who love him, love each other, and love his world. What I love to see is that God is using students at The Summit Church to carry out his mission. There is still much to be done in our remaining four months of meeting together as we prepare to spend our summer in Southeast Asia! Would you consider praying for us in these areas?
- Pray that we would daily abide in Christ for apart from him we can do nothing (John 15)
- Pray for unity as a team centered around the gospel, and pray for the work going on in Southeast Asia right now that God would continue to call people out of darkness into his marvelous light.
- Pray that God would be glorified as His people are obedient in carrying out his mission
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
